OUR APPROACH

Fine Jewelry,
Made More Considered

Sustainability in jewelry is not one simple claim. It is a series of choices: what we source, how much we make, how clearly we communicate, and how long a piece is designed to be worn. At Efi & Co, we focus on making those choices more considered and more transparent.

Lab-Grown by Choice

We specialise in laboratory-grown diamonds: diamonds created through technological processes rather than extracted from the earth.

Clarity Over Claims

We believe customers should know what they are buying. Diamond origin, grading information and product details are disclosed clearly rather than hidden behind vague sustainability language.

Made to Order illustration

Made to Order

Much of our jewelry is produced after an order is placed. This allows us to focus production on pieces that have already found an owner rather than building large quantities of finished inventory.

Longevity matters. We create fine jewelry intended for repeated wear, with aftercare guidance and support to help customers look after their pieces.

A Different Origin illustration

LAB-GROWN DIAMONDS

A Different Origin.
The Same Material.

Laboratory-grown diamonds have essentially the same chemical composition, crystal structure and optical and physical properties as diamonds formed in nature. The difference is their origin: they are grown using controlled technological processes rather than mined.

Choosing lab-grown avoids diamond mining, but that does not mean production has no environmental footprint. Growing and manufacturing diamonds requires energy, and the impact can vary depending on how and where they are produced.

That is why we prefer a specific, transparent approach rather than describing every laboratory-grown diamond as automatically “sustainable.”

TRANSPARENCY FIRST

What We Say —
and What We Don't

WHAT WE CAN SAY

Our Diamonds Are Laboratory-Grown

Their origin is disclosed clearly, and certified stones are accompanied by the relevant grading information supplied with the diamond.

WHAT WE CAN SAY

They Do Not Require Diamond Mining

Laboratory-grown diamonds are created in production facilities rather than recovered through diamond mining.

×

WHAT WE AVOID

“Zero Impact”

Jewelry production still uses energy and materials. We do not believe responsible communication should pretend otherwise.

×

WHAT WE AVOID

Vague “Eco-Friendly” Claims

Environmental performance depends on specific sourcing and production conditions. We prefer explaining the choices we actually make.

OUR SOURCING APPROACH

Traceability Starts With Knowing What You're Buying

Responsible sourcing is not only about where a diamond was grown. It also means asking for clear product information, working with established suppliers and keeping the origin of laboratory-grown material transparent.

01

Clear Lab-Grown Disclosure

We identify laboratory-grown diamonds as laboratory-grown so customers can make an informed choice.

02

Independent Grading Information

Where a diamond is sold with an independent grading report, the report provides additional information about the stone and its laboratory-grown origin.

03

Supplier Accountability

We prioritise suppliers who can provide clear information about the diamonds and jewelry they supply rather than relying on unsupported claims.

04

Better Information Over Better-Sounding Language

We would rather give customers information they can evaluate than use environmental terms that cannot be meaningfully explained.

MADE TO ORDER

Made for an Order,
Not for Excess

Many Efi & Co pieces are made after the customer has chosen the diamond, setting, metal and details. This lets us direct production toward actual orders instead of maintaining large volumes of finished jewelry in every possible combination.

Made-to-order production does not remove all waste, but it is a practical way for a smaller jewelry business to keep finished inventory more considered.

LONGEVITY

Keeping Jewelry in Wear Matters Too

A piece that is chosen carefully, cared for and worn for years has a different relationship with its owner than something treated as disposable.

01

Design With Intention

Proportion, wearability and personal preference are considered so your jewelry feels right beyond a single season.

02

Choose Before We Make

Customisation allows you to select the details that matter to you before production begins.

03

Care for What You Own

Proper cleaning, storage and setting checks help protect fine jewelry from avoidable damage.

A WORK IN PROGRESS

Responsibility Is Something We Keep Working On

There is no single material or production method that makes fine jewelry impact-free. Our responsibility is to keep asking better questions, improve the information available to customers and make practical improvements as our business and supply chain develop.

As more reliable supplier-level information becomes available, our goal is to make our sourcing and environmental communication more specific—not more vague.

SUSTAINABILITY FAQ

Good to Know

Are laboratory-grown diamonds real diamonds?
Yes. Laboratory-grown diamonds have essentially the same chemical composition, crystal structure, optical and physical properties as natural diamonds. Their growth origin is different.
Are laboratory-grown diamonds automatically sustainable?
We do not make that blanket claim. Laboratory-grown diamonds avoid diamond mining, but producing them still requires energy and materials. Environmental impact can vary according to the production process, energy source and supplier.
Why does Efi & Co choose laboratory-grown diamonds?
They allow us to offer fine diamond jewelry with a laboratory-grown origin, clear disclosure and strong design flexibility while avoiding the extraction of the diamond itself through mining.
What does certified lab-grown diamond mean?
A certified or graded laboratory-grown diamond is accompanied by a report from an independent gemological laboratory describing characteristics of the stone and identifying its laboratory-grown origin.
Does made-to-order mean zero waste?
No. Jewelry manufacturing still uses materials, energy and production resources. Made-to-order simply allows us to focus more of our finished production on confirmed customer orders rather than creating every possible combination in advance.
Why don't you call all your jewelry “eco-friendly”?
Because broad environmental claims can oversimplify a complex supply chain. We prefer to explain individual sourcing and production choices and improve those choices over time.
How can I make my jewelry last longer?
Remove it for high-impact activities, keep it away from harsh chemicals, store pieces separately, clean gently and have settings checked if something feels loose or damaged. Visit our Ring Care Guide for more detail.
